Our team goes to great lengths to rescue captive Asian elephants from exploitation, mistreatment, malnourishment and abuse in the logging and entertainment industries throughout Thailand.
Great distances are travelled in order to fully understand and analyze the elephants’ conditions, often requiring the expertise of an on-hand veterinarian. We then work to establish relationships with these elephants’ owners and mahouts before we are able to formulate our Rescue Plan, which involves payment to the owner in order to secure the release of his or her elephant to our sanctuary.
Upon arrival at our sanctuary, the elephants are often under-nourished, traumatized, weak, and distressed by the long journey they have undertaken in order to reach us. These animals inevitably need immediate care and nourishment, and our priority is to ensure that they feel safe and at peace as quickly as possible.
One elephant rescue costs anywhere from US$ 35,000 to US$ 50,000 in order for us to safely transport, obtain, and perform the necessary veterinary care needed. And we need all the support we can get. We believe that a small group of committed people can make a difference, one elephant at a time.
